Bare Bottom
Were you ever spanked on the bare bottom by your parents?
Do you think bare bottom spanking is an acceptable form of discipline in certain situations?
To be honest, I don’t think spanking is an acceptable form of discipline. I think physical violence in general doesn’t solve anything. Child or not, I feel that it’s not about punishment as much as it is about degrading a child. Of course, everyone as different opinions.
I understand that sometimes a child puts a parent in a position where they feel they need to give them a good whack to teach them a lesson, but coming from someone who was spanked until a late age, it can mess someone up.
However, I have seen very disrespectful children. I have a cousin who cusses at his parents! Now that's uncalled for. I've gotten to points where I've wanted to spank him, though never bare bottom because that's a bit ... harsh. The other side of this issue, though, he is spanked, smacked, and everything, but he learns ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. And when he is spanked, they give him a good one. Not on an abusive level, obviously, but a nice hard whack to show him it's wrong. But as long as he can keep his toys, he's okay. So I think, from my experiences with him, that taking away toys seems more effective.
Grounding or other such punishments can be used as alternatives. If those, however, do not work, then perhaps the parent has been too lenient and needs a better grip on their child (no offense to some parents, because I know sometimes a child is just rebellious).
It’s a mixed issue. I have my opinions, other people have theirs. How people were raised or personal experience can highly effect their views upon an issue— this one especially. The situation someone is put under can also effect it, as well as the child a person is dealing with. In general, I believe violence is violence and there are always alternatives.
