Chicken Exhibition

Wht is the best chicken breed for showing (exhibition)?

Hen or rooster? What color type of the breed you think is best? Thanks everyone!!

You can show any breed you want as long as it is observed by the APA (American Poultry Association). That is if you live in the states, if not you probably have a similar Association in your country. http://www.amerpoultryassn.com/APA_Recognized_Breeds_6_2010.pdf
Here are the Recognized Breeds

Your options are practically unlimited, (granted that you can find a good show bird), so pick whatever appeals to you the most. I personally favor Brahmas (Buff, and Dark), but everyone is different. You don’t have to have a very bright showy breed like a Polish, a Rhode Island Red will do if that is what you like.

As for gender you can have either. Do keep in mind that if you have an aggressive rooster, that could be a pain if he is trying to fight other roosters, or is mean to the judges. But, many roosters are shown so it isn't impossible. Also, if you pick a gamefowl rooster, many of those have to be dubbed, or have their comb chopped off.

The Associations picks the breed standards for showing, so you may want to get a copy of their book, if interested in showing. http://www.amerpoultryassn.com/APA_ShoppingMall3.htm

Best wishes,
