How come poeple on the west coast are not as patriotic as people on the east coast when it comes to holidays?

I am originally from the east coast, and it just surprises me how strange the people are over here. Back in the east coast, people take EVERYDAY holiday seriously and the streets are all decorated and everything. Maybe it is just California?
I do not think that the weather has anything to do with it. The southern part of the west coast is hotter than California. People here just dismiss the Holidays like they are nothing!

It may have something to do with the fact that most major events in the United States' history took place on the East Coast.
