Where did US American Soldiers meet their Japanese wives in Post WWII Japan?
did they meet near/around where the US soldiers bases, like around yokota air base for example? Just curious historically. thank you.
As you know, right after WWII, US military (as part of the Allied Powers to be exact) occupied Japan from 1945 to 1952. During the occupation years, American soldiers were stationed everywhere in Japan.
In order to "protect" Japanese women from sex-related crimes by the occupation forces, the GHQ and the Japanese government provided US troops with "Recreation and Amusement" facilities in major cities. A record shows that as many as 70,000 Japanese women were "recruited" for this highly-paid job throughout Japan. Around these facilities, night clubs and dance halls were built by Japanese entrepreneurs to entertain 'lonely' Americans. Many of them must have "met" their Japanese wives in one of these places in Post WWII Japan.
Let me add the facts that
1) back then, those Japanese women wanted to marry Americans to live in the US;
2) today, Americans want to marry Japanese women to live in Japan.
