Russian Ballet

What is the difference between ballet and Russian Vaganova style Balancine technique?

I will attend the summer program of GNP, and I would how different is the style of Russian ballet Balanchine classic. Is it harder or easier? I was trained in the Vaganova Mathod for many years, and any other information or advice on GDP would be helpful. Thank you!

Read this article and get details about them: Dance Russian in the shadow of Balanchine By Iris Fanger NEW YORK - This year, ballet companies across the U.S. and Europe are celebrating the centenary choreographer George Balanchine, the father of neoclassical ballet. But the New York City Ballet (NYCB), Balanchine's former home is not only to present his works, but with a world premiere about him, both to honor his vision and boost the form of art in the 21st century. At least, it is the intention of Russian ballet master Boris Eifman, who choreographed a ballet about the life of Balanchine that focuses a strong narrative. This is in direct contradiction with the abstract ballets by Balanchine, who tend to be on the dance itself rather than telling a history. Eifman of "Musagete" takes a tour through the heritage Russian Balanchine biography and travel to USA - Not to mention the shoes, he met on the way - but also suggests the current connections between ballet yesterday and today. "I will show that Balanchine is not a museum, but the choreography that can move forward, "Eifman said after the first of his recent ballet, whose troupe will tour during coming months. Balanchine was one of the Russian dance emigrants who came to the United States, arriving in 1933, after troops Anna Pavlova and the Ballets Diaghilev's Russian, and before Rudolph Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and others who came after mid-century. Balanchine, who co-founded the School of American Ballet and NYCB, where he worked until his death in 1983 was probably the major influence. But together, he and his compatriots transformed ballet from a toy of the tsars and the Soviets project company in a robust form of American art. In doing so, Balanchine not only developed Russian style, but also builds a bridge between the 19th and 20th centuries. "Musagete 'was commissioned because Peter Martins, NYCB's artistic director, Eifman had seen the company when he played in New York, liked what he saw, and invited him to create a new work for "Balanchine 100," the centenary of the birth NYCB Balanchine. "Sure, it's a great honor for me to do a job for the company of Balanchine," says Eifman. "This company and my company are very different things but many are very close. Balanchine was in St. Petersburg, I am from Saint Petersburg. He graduated from the Conservatory, I am a graduate of the Conservatory. But it's the music. The music was more important to Balanchine and it is more important to me. Music gives me my idea for the choreography, "he said. Eifman was not an obvious candidate to choreograph for NYCB. The company is known for signature Balanchine works, which reveal the crystalline beauty of ballet movement allied with music rather than the qualities expressive actions and gestures. In contrast, Eifman ballets are based on literature and history and present of the agony of the human condition and its effects on the individual. His style includes a blend of techniques that owe more to gymnastics and circus to the dance hall. "I hope provide more energy, new excitement and new ideas, "says the choreographer." I bring a little blood on this kind of performance. I give something new, a bit [of] strong emotion, "he said. Balanchine's muses "Musagete," which means "one who pushes Muses, "says Eifman, refers to the well-known devotion to Balanchine's ballerinas, including four he married. The ballet, set to music by JS Bach and a final section of Tchaikovsky, opens with a spotlight on a man bent over a chair. It is clearly George Balanchine at the end of his life back on itself as a young man. Passages with allusions to some of the most famous works of Balanchine ballet is performed by a large body, alternating with solos and pas de deux for dancer Robert Tewsley boosted in its interpretation of Balanchine as a man torn by emotions. Its partners are a woman wearing feline cap beads Russia and leotard, a young student who thrives in a star, but suffers a tragedy, and a child-ballerina who rejects him. And every fan can enter the names Balanchine, although Eifman declines to specifically identify the women, preferring to consider symbols. "This company has very strong emotional potential. They are young. They are inside a soul. My point was do something new for them. If I bring something like they did, why am I here? "Eifman says. Critics were sharply divided over" Musagète ", which some felt had been grafted on the New York firm. (Eifman choreographed it in Russia using its own dancers, the Instead of working directly new NYCB dancers.) A number of critics also found the dissection of Balanchine on-and offstage lives in dubious taste. Others have simply agreed to work as Eifman Ballet story about a legendary man. clings to the old Russian ballet so as a newcomer to the United States in 1933, Balanchine immersed himself in the sights and new sounds he found here, nervous rhythms of American jazz and pop music tempo on the speed of automobiles. Although its foundation was the classical dance training he had learned in St. Petersburg and the ballets of the 19th century choreographer Marius Petipa, Balanchine created a neo-classical technique that is aligned with the ballet and American modern work of European artists and composers. This style of the choreography failed to Russia. During the reign of Stalin and ministers later, experimental choreographers Balanchine generation have been removed so ballet is stuck in old traditions. Now the Russians are racing to catch up. Over the last 10 years, the Mariinsky Ballet (known as the Kirov during the Soviet period) has added works by Balanchine - who has danced for the company - to his repertoire. Eifman company, founded in 1977, survives without government support by presenting its freewheeling, emotion drenched dance audiences Young and hip, it has grown in Russia and on visits to the West. "Balanchine left Russia when he was 20, but he took everything from the best Russia, "Eifman says." I did ballet, because I see this information about Balanchine changed me, too, [and] gave me ideas for my art, "he said. "I must take a step forward to show that growth of Petipa to Balanchine to our time." Programs • Russian Festival including Balanchine's own ballets, will be repeated during residence of the company in July in Saratoga, many of Balanchine's works will be performed NY Tokyo, Costa Mesa, California, and Los Angeles on the NYCB in September-October tour. *
