Swift Country
Is taylor swift an other country singers becoming more popular in the UK with the pop influence.?
I know that country western has never had a following really in Europe, but is that changing.
I was a sub-editor for a country magazine in the UK when I graduated uni in 2005...being one of very few in my generation who actually UNDERSTAND the genre. I was lucky, I got to interview and meet some pretty big names...and asked them all about their plans for Europe. The record companies didn't appear to have one.
I think there is huge potential to capture a young, energetic audience in the UK and Europe - but CMT shut down operations in this part of the world back in 2000ish. It is my goal to open a country pub/club in Brighton and while I think Taylor Swift has a long way to go vocally (my opinion) attitude and talent like hers, Miranda's, Brad's, Randy Hauser's and Trent Tomlinson would knock people off their feet.
The problem is that people get stuck on the whole line-dance thing when you mention country...that, or, Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton. It's so much more and they are just completely blind. It doesnt help that the people promoting the music are middle-aged. Give me a mic and a willing radio station - let's get a proper movement going.
As for touring...ummm I know Sugarland are doing some gigs in Europe. The venues to check out are the Borderline (London), any of the Carling Arenas and there's a place in Maidstone, Kent that gets some rootsy names.
